Nike Air Griffey Max 1 GS – Grey / Aqua / Pink

The South Beach/Miami Vice vibe has become so increasingly popular over the last two years that anything that utilizes that energetic Retro-inspired punchy theme is guaranteed to get some attention. The Air Griffey Max 1 comes back with a vengeance using the ‘South Beach’ colorway without shame, but instead of going “over the top”, it uses it in moderation, pairing it with a muted Grey/White upper. You can find the hot pink on the Max Air unit as well as on the contrast stitching on the Swoosh as well as the on the strap, with the aqua tones being used in other areas for quite an easy-going combination. Besides the colorway, it’s good to see the Air Griffey Max 1 (undoubtedly the most popular Griffey Retro) return to us, hopefully this is a sign of more releases (in adult sizes, we hope) in the future. More shots below, so take a look and we’ll keep you updated on release information. (more…)

Nike Air Griffey Max 1

Nike Air Griffey Max 1 – Freshwater | Release Reminder

Nike Air Griffey Max 1

Many Nike Retro releases garner as much excitement as new releases do, and even with a plethora of great sneakers dropping tomorrow, the Nike Air Griffey Max 1 in the OG ‘Freshwater’ colorway will be regarded, by some, to be one of the best Retro releases of the year. Ken Griffey Jr.’s star legacy has been overshadowed by a number of controversial MLB stories concerning PEDs, lockouts, monster contracts, and so forth, so allowing for the Nike Griffey comeback was one of the best decisions by Nike. These will certainly be a hot commodity for the remainder of the summer and into the school year, as will this sick Vandal-A matching t-shirt, inspired by the Da Vinci Diagram. Be on the lookout tonight at midnight on NikeStore and tomorrow as they will officially hit stores (although they have been spotted at many retailers earlier). We’ve got more images of the shoe after the jump, as well as some looks at the Vandal-A t-shirt in two colors, so check them out and if you can’t wait, get a pair of the Griffeys right now from sneakerpost on Bay. If the Seattle Mariners one day change their uniform and logo colors, then their 1993-born palette will be as strongly identified with Ken Griffey Jr. as the Seahawks' old garb is with Steve Largent.  Griffey played a huge role in making the perinneal cellar dwellers into contenders in the mid/late '90s and though they failed to repeat o

n 1995's miracle year the following season, '96 was among Junior's finest, with a 49-HR season foreshadowing three consecutive AL-leading totals to close out the decade.  He crushed the ball that year, 'ran for president' and played some of the 90s best center field while wearing the Nike Air Griffey Max 1, which has returned with its Deep Emerald color renamed to the more familiar (at least at this point in history) Freshwater.  Click through to see more of the OG Air Griffey Max 1 and look for a pair at Nike Sportswear retailers like jbseller on eBay. Nike Air Griffey Max 1 – Black / White / Freshwater | New Photos

Nike Air Griffey Max 1

There's been talk of the Seattle Mariners making a play at free agent to be Prince Fielder because aside from that record-breaking 2001 season, the team simply hasn't been the same in its post-Ken Griffey Jr. era.  Junior combined with Seattle heroes Randy J

ohnson, Jay Buhner and a young Alex Rodriguez to earn the Mariners their first playoff birth and an upset victory over the Yankees in the 1995 ALDS.  Griffey scored the winning run in the decisive Game 5 on an Edgar Martinez double and though the M's were unable to get past Cleveland and earn a World Series birth, The Kid's star was born on the national stage and Nike would respond with an even stronger marketing push.  After that memorable '95 season's Air Diamond Fury, the Swoosh moved to rename his signature line starting with the Nike Air Griffey Max 1 in this colorway promoted with the 'Junior in '96' campaign.  Click through to see its OG-true Freshwater, black and white palette and get ready for these to hit Nike Sportswear retailers next month.  (more…)

Nike Air Griffey Max 1
Black/White-Fresh Water-Varsity Red

If you're not old enough to have had the opportunity to watch Michael Jordan play, chances are you've never seen Ken Griffey Jr. in action. Griffey played in the pros up until 2

010, but he wasn't the swagtastic home-run swatter for most of the decade. It was during his Seattle days that he gained prominence as an unusual power-hitter (he was much smaller than guys like McGwire and Sosa), but remember that he was also quite deft with the glove as center field roamer. Even if you didn't have the opportunity to watch the man with the sweetest lefty power-swing of all time, you can still enjoy Nike Griffeys as they offer a different sneaker style not seen in runners, Jordans, or basketball kicks. If you need a reminder again, the OG Black/Freshwater colorway of the Nike Air Griffey Max 1 has a set release date of August 10th, so check out the new images below and let us know if these mid-August drops are a must-have for you. Nike Air Griffey Max II – White / Photo Blue / Black

Various eye-catching aquatic shades have been central to the Ken Griffey’s Nike Training signature series since its inception with the Air Diamond Fury i

n 1995, this latest release among the purest blues from that category.  The Nike Air Griffey Max 1 doesn’t match any of Junior’s MLB uniforms, but its mix of white leather with black and Photo Blue accents makes for a great summertime sneaker and one of the best white releases in the entire Nike Griffey lineage.  Click through to see more angles and look for these now at NSW retailers like CitySole or get your pair on eBay. Nike Air Griffey Max 1

The recent retros of the Nike Air Griffey Max 1 were well received and highly praised by the sneaker community and Griffey enthusiasts who longed for a reissue of the slugger’s first signature shoe with Nike. UPDATE 2: The official word from Nike. We have confirmed with Nike that the upcoming Nike Air Griffey Max 1 is in fact officially called “Freshwater”. The original colorway was Deep Emerald.
